Softlocks & Hard Keys

Softlocks & Hard Keys is a custom map for the first-person word puzzle game Lingo 2 -- you must own the base game in order to play it.

This map is inspired by the red "I" in Lingo 2 (that moment along with the rest of The Repetitive was one of my contributions to the base game), with a splash of I Wanna Lockpick for good measure. It explores several ways that Lingo 2's letter collection mechanic can itself be a puzzle, and introduces a new symbol and set of modifiers which interact directly with letter collection.

As the title suggests, the map is full of traps that softlock you and force you to start over. The "puzzle" is not so much about the word puzzles or the panels (there are <50 of them) and more about working out a successful order of operations and route through the map. There are no saves: you start each run fresh with only the knowledge you learned from the last attempt. Can you collect all the letters in one run, or will the rage consume you first?

Installation Guide

1. Download softlocks.tscn
2. Click the "Game Data" button in Lingo 2's "Settings" menu
3. Copy softlocks.tscn into the maps/ subfolder
4. Use "Level Select" on the Lingo 2 main menu to select "Softlocks"
